Modified corn starch: What is it and is it healthy?

  1. On the packaging of all kinds of products you often encounter the term 'modified corn starch'. This raises questions for many people. What exactly is going on with the starch? Why is something being modified and what are the consequences for our health? Is it harmless or should we start worrying?

Is the modified corn starch healthy?

  1. Since only the chemical structure is changed a bit, it is essentially still just corn starch. Our bodies can process it just as easily as unmodified corn starch. It is broken down in the same way in our digestive system. However, some substances are released, such as vinegar or ammonia. These are substances that our body has no problem with, because they occur in many more things. Modified corn starch is therefore not genetically manipulated plants or the like.
