Pregnant and cinnamon
-
Pregnant women should be careful when eating cinnamon or products containing cinnamon. The danger lies in the two harmful substances contained in cinnamon, namely coumarin and safrole. Both substances are potentially carcinogenic and can be harmful to health. The influence of these substances on the unborn child is not entirely clear, but as a precaution it is recommended not to take too much of them during pregnancy.
Cinnamon during pregnancy
-
As a precaution, pregnant women should be more careful and moderate their intake of cinnamon. However, it is important to look at the species. Ceylon cinnamon contains so little of the harmful substances that it is impossible to eat too much of it. When this strain is used, eating cinnamon during pregnancy won't do that much harm. It is almost never stated which type of cinnamon is involved on foods containing cinnamon. Therefore, it is wise to eat these in moderation.
