Pregnant and drop
-
Licorice is a popular delicacy in the Netherlands and an average of two kilos per person is eaten annually. True licorice lovers, however, should be careful, especially during pregnancy. In addition to high blood pressure, licorice can also cause behavioral problems in children if too much of it is consumed during pregnancy.
Drop during pregnancy
-
It is recommended not to eat too much liquorice during pregnancy. Especially women who have high blood pressure should be careful when eating licorice and should avoid it. The nutrition center therefore recommends not eating more than 5 liquorice a day during pregnancy. In addition to licorice, there are also other products that contain glycyrrhizic acid. Examples are liquorice tea, liquorice flavored liquors, throat lozenges, cough syrups and chewing gum with licorice flavor. If one of these products is already used during pregnancy, it is better to avoid eating licorice.
