Pregnant and shrimp
-
For pregnant women it is sometimes difficult to determine which fish is safe to eat, and which fish should be avoided. For example, fatty fish is healthy because of the good fatty acids, but it can also be contaminated with heavy metals and PCBs. A similar comparison can be made for shrimp, they are low in fat and contain a lot of proteins and nutrients, but they are very fragile and sensitive to bacteria. Many wonder whether prepackaged or uncooked shrimp are safe to eat during pregnancy.

It is advisable for pregnant women not to store cooked and prepackaged shrimp for too long and to eat them immediately after purchase. It is even safer to reheat the shrimp before consumption. Shrimp become tough if heated for too long, so this can be better prevented. Furthermore, it is not recommended to eat raw shrimps unless they are properly heated.
