Heat the olive oil in a soup pan and fry the garlic and onion.

Add the celery, the thyme and the stock and simmer for 10 minutes.

Put the chickpeas and ham strips through and heat without boiling.

Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve the soup sprinkled with the cheese.
