Dutch steak with date sauce

Grate the orange and press it out.

Cut the dates open, remove the kernel and cut the flesh into strips.

Cut the tomatoes in four, scoop out the seeds and let them drain into a sieve above a bowl.

Cut the flesh into cubes.

Let the steak come to room temperature and rub it in with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Heat the butter in a frying pan and fry the steaks on high heat in about 5 minutes brown and inside rosé, turning them halfway through the baking time.

Pack the steaks in aluminum foil and keep them warm.

Stir the date strips, tomato cubes, cinnamon, orange zest, the orange juice and the drained tomato juice through the shortening.

Add some salt, freshly ground black pepper and if necessary a dash of water and cook the whole into a nice sauce.

Place the steaks on hot plates and spoon the date sauce over them.

Tasty with couscous or baked potatoes and green beans.
