Heat 2 tablespoons of oil and smother the onion, pointed pepper, paprika powder and chilli powder. Stir in the sauerkraut, add a dash of water and simmer for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook the potatoes until done. Drain and stamp a mash with milk, nutmeg, salt and pepper.

Drill the cores from the apples and cut into slices. Bake the apple slices lightly brown in the rest of the oil.

Serve the mashed potatoes with the sauerkraut and apple slices.
