Homemade vanilla sauce.

Pour the milk and the whipped cream into a pan with a thick bottom.

Cut open a vanilla pod in the length and scrape out the vanilla with a sharp knife.

Bring the milk mixture to the boil with vanilla and stick and let it cook for 10 minutes on low heat.

Dissolve the cornstarch in a few drops of water in a small bowl. Split the eggs (the protein is not used).

In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks, cornstarch and the sugar until the mixture turns pale and creamy.

Pour a dash of hot milk into the egg mixture while stirring. Beat the whole well.

Pour the egg mixture into the pan with the hot milk. Heat the sauce while stirring with a wooden spoon until the sauce is bound.

The sauce then hangs on the back of the spoon and a drawn line remains visible.
