Directions

  1. Let the filo pastry thaw according to the instructions on the package.
  2. Preheat the oven to 175 ° C or gas oven setting 3.
  3. Finely chop the walnuts (in a food processor). Mix in the cinnamon and clove. Melt the butter in a pan.
  4. Brush the mold with butter. Halve the sheets of dough in width. Place a piece of dough in the mold and brush with butter. Repeat this 3 times.
  5. Divide half of the walnut mixture over it. Cover with 2 buttered sheets of dough. Spoon the rest of the walnut mixture.
  6. Cover with the rest of the sheets of dough, brush each sheet with butter. Use a sharp knife to make notches for 8 pieces.
  7. Bake the baklava in the middle of the oven in approx. 35 min. Light brown.
  8. Meanwhile, clean the orange, grate the orange peel and squeeze out the orange. Strain the juice and fill with water to 100 ml (for 8 pieces).
  9. Bring the sugar to the boil with the orange zest and the diluted juice. Allow to cook for about 5 minutes in a low heat on low heat.
  10. Stir in the honey and allow to cool until use. Remove the baklava from the oven and pour the syrup over it.
  11. Let the baklava stand for at least 1 hour to allow the syrup to draw well. Cut the baklava through the notches in cubes.
  12. Serve the baklava lukewarm or at room temperature with a cup of strong (or Greek) coffee.
