Cut a piece of zest from the orange and squeeze out the fruit.

Mix orange peel and juice with the sugar, the cinnamon stick, the cloves and possibly star anise in a large pan.

Pour in the wine and simmer for 20 minutes. Make sure the mixture does not boil. Switch off the heat source and let it run for about 2 hours.

Pour the wine through a sieve so that the spices remain. Serve the wine directly in 4-6 glasses or warm up if necessary for serving.
