Knead the mince with the dates, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, thyme, salt and freshly ground pepper. Form firm meatballs with moist hands. Add some extra breadcrumbs if necessary.

Fry the meatballs around brown in the oil or baking product. Add a small splash of water and cook for about 20 minutes with the lid on the pan.

In the meantime, heat the butter for the sauce and fry the shallot in it. Add the flour and cook for about 2 minutes.

Pour the broth into portions with stirring. Finish the sauce with madeira, cooking cream, salt and freshly ground pepper. Serve the meatballs with the sauce. Delicious with red cabbage or chicory.
