Dab the meat dry with kitchen paper. Peel and chop the onion. Heat the butter in a frying pan and fry the meat around brown. Fry the onion for about 2 minutes.

Sprinkle the meat with the pepper and salt. Pour hot water in a pan until the meat is just below.

Add the bay leaves, cloves and vinegar. Cook the meat covered in about 2 1/2 hours until tender.

Taste the gravy and season with pepper and salt.
