Red cabbage with lemon and apple
A tasty Dutch recipe. The vegetarian side dish contains the following ingredients: red cabbage (sliced), butter, red wine, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, juniper berries (crushed), lemon (squeezed), honey, apples ((elstar) and grated).

Bring the red cabbage with the butter, the wine, the cinnamon stick, the laurel and the juniper berries to the boil. Put a lid on the pan, turn the heat down and let the coals cook in about 1 hour. Drain the red cabbage and store the cooking water.

Boil the cooking liquid briefly with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and honey. Remove the spices. Spoon the apple with the rest of the lemon juice. Stir the apple through the cooked coal and pour the sweet cooking liquid over it.
