Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by recurrent inflammation of the hair follicle and sebaceous glands. Numerous painful and very bothersome abscesses form with this non-contagious skin condition, some of which can grow to the size of a ping-pong ball. These abscesses mainly occur in the groin, genitals, buttocks and armpits, neck, ears, neck, nipples, as well as under the breasts and in the abdominal folds. There are a number of risk factors for HS: smoking, hereditary predisposition, obesity and hormones. Women are more often affected by this skin condition than men. Hidradenitis suppurativa usually occurs between the ages of 20-40, but it can occur at any age.
