Is cheese a good meat substitute?
-
Cheese is not a good vegetarian option. Cheese does not provide the same nutrients as meat. Although cheese provides as much protein as meat and vitamin B12, it contains very little iron, about 0.1 milligrams per 100 grams. Moreover, cheese often contains a lot of saturated fat, especially the fat (48+) variants and a lot of salt. That's why we don't see cheese as a good vegetarian alternative.
Sustainability
-
Cheese is not much more sustainable than meat. The production of cheese requires a lot of land use and causes a lot of CO2 emissions, just like meat.

Variation on meat Eggs, nuts, legumes, tofu and tempeh provide nearly the same nutrients as meat.
