Cholesterol is a fatty substance. It is produced in your liver. You get it through food. It is mainly found in animal products with a high fat percentage such as butter, fatty cheeses, chocolate, sausage and bacon. It is transported into your body in the form of protein parts also called lipoproteins. There are two types of cholesterol: good and bad. To start with the first: High Density Lipoproteins in short HDL transports excess cholesterol in your body to the liver. That's okay, they are also called good cholesterol. Low Density Lipoproteins or LDL is less good. This is also called bad cholesterol. Bad because it can cause blockages in your blood vessels, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is therefore important to avoid, control or greatly reduce bad cholesterol as much as possible. How do you do that?

A natural cholesterol level must be less than 5. If it is between 5 and 6.5, you can lower it with food. If it is higher than 6.5, you will have to adjust your diet and take pills. You can ask your doctor for a test to determine your value.
