This largely avoids errors by the person carrying out the measurement. You don't always have to make an appointment with your doctor to check your blood pressure; you can monitor your own blood pressure at home. This is especially important if your doctor recommends that you check your blood pressure on a regular basis. The blood pressure measurement can be taken on both the right and left arm. Left-handed people often measure right and right-handed people prefer to measure left.
