A stuffy nose is often the result of an infection of the nasal mucosa. With a blocked nose, the blood vessels in the mucous membrane widen. This releases moisture and causes the mucous membrane to swell. Breathing through the nose is then no longer possible. And just breathing through your mouth is not that healthy, because the air is no longer purified of bacteria.
Types of nasal spray If you have a stuffy nose, there are two types of sprays / drops you can use to get air again: 1) Nasal spray with sodium chloride Sodium chloride is nothing more than table salt. The table salt is dissolved in a certain proportion in the nasal spray. As a result, the skin and mucous membranes are not irritated during use. The spray almost immediately thins the thickened mucus, after which blowing and breathing become easier again. Caked-on mucus in and around the nose can be removed more easily. The spray is very suitable for small children up to two years old. Older children and adults are also often helped with this. If the symptoms have not improved after two weeks, see a doctor. 2) Nasal spray with xylometazoline Products containing xylometazoline are stronger than saline products. This remedy relieves the complaints of a nasal cold and sinus infection, but it does not cure them

If you use a spray, follow the instructions below: When you use the spray for the first time, press the pump a few times. As a result, the spray chamber fills with the liquid. Keep your head upright. Place the nozzle in one nostril and keep the other closed. Press the pump once. Sniff the liquid at the same time so that the spray enters deep into the nose. Then do this also with the other nostril. Rinse the spout thoroughly with lukewarm water and close the bottle carefully. After opening, the spray can be kept for one month. If you use drops, follow the directions below: Take your time for the dripping! Nasal drip is not easy for everyone. Tilt your head back and put one or two drops into one nostril. Then bend the head far forward, so that you are almost on your head. Let the liquid work for a few seconds. If you find this difficult, you can also lie down on the bed. Then lie on your back, with your head over the edge of the bed. Stay there for a while after dripping. You no longer have to hang your head forward. You can also use this method with small children.
