Cardamom is generally well tolerated, a normal dose is one to two grams per day. In overdose some side effects such as skin irritation and stomach pain may occur. Because the body cannot absorb a large amount of cardamom, a precipitate can form in the gallbladder, causing gallstones to form. Those who already suffer from gallstones should not take cardamom.
