Flagyl or metronidazole is an antibiotic that is prescribed, among other things, for infections caused by Trichomonas and Giardia. It is also used to fight the bacterium Helicobacter pylori in bacterial vaginosis and stomach and duodenal ulcers. Sometimes a one-day cure is sufficient, in other cases it takes a little longer and with some procedures it is given as a precaution. Alcohol should not be consumed while taking metronidazole.
