Remove the hard core from the cabbage, cut the coals into quarters and then into strips. Heat the butter and add the cabbage, water and syrup.

Cook over low heat for 30 minutes. Remove the lid from the pan and cook over a high heat for 10 minutes until the moisture has evaporated.

Meanwhile, fry the bacon strips in a 6-min. Frying pan without oil or butter. Drain on kitchen paper and scoop through the cabbage.
