5 questions about… bulletproof coffee

  1. It is a big hit in America and here too you come across it more and more: bulletproof coffee. What is it exactly and is this butter coffee really that healthy?

  1. After green coffee, bulletproof coffee is the new trend.

1. What is Bulletproof Coffee?

  1. Simply put, bulletproof coffee is coffee with butter and coconut oil. It is claimed that this coffee will keep you concentrated for hours, suppress hunger and help you lose weight. Moreover, you get a good dose of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids with it.

2. Who invented it?

  1. The American Dave Asprey developed bulletproof coffee, or butter coffee, after he was introduced to tea enriched with yak butter in Tibet. Asprey is a smart businessman: now he sells coffee beans and coconut oil extract for bulletproof coffee and also propagates the bulletproof coffee diet. Many celebrities now swear by this coffee hype.

3. How do you make bulletproof coffee?

  1. Make coffee in the normal way. The inventor swears by slow coffee (filter coffee) or cafeteria coffee. Place the coffee in a preheated blender, add 1-2 tablespoons unsalted (grass) butter and 1-2 tablespoons coconut oil per cup. Set the blender to the highest setting and mix until you get a good foam layer. Optionally, you can add a flavor such as cinnamon powder, vanilla extract or cocoa. Pour the coffee into a cup and drink it.

4. Is bulletproof coffee good?

  1. Tastes differ of course. If you like a creamy latte, this is your coffee. But beware: it is quite a heavy cup, you really feel full from a cup of bulletproof coffee. And of course you have to love the light coconut accent.

5. Is Bulletproof Coffee Healthy?

  1. There is no scientific research into bulletproof coffee. The claims have therefore not been proven. It is logical that you suppress hunger feelings with this coffee. A cup easily contains 250-400 kilocalories. Almost a complete meal! Normally coffee, if you drink it black without sugar, does not contain any calories. The danger of a number of these cups per day is that your diet becomes quite one-sided. You are certainly not hungry, but you are also not getting the nutrients you do need.
