A sweaty bottom, what to do?

  1. People who sweat a lot on their buttocks often find this very annoying. After all, it can create large wet spots on the back of the pants that are difficult to hide from others. Especially with people who have to sit on a chair for a long time, such as at the office or school, it can end in a super wet backside. Having to get up again really becomes something to dread! A warm climate, strenuous activities, stress and anxiety can also cause large wet spots in some people. If it bothers you so badly, what can be done about it?

Underlying problem

  1. You may think that you just have a very sweaty bottom and often you are, but sometimes there can really be an underlying problem. It's important to find out first! Especially if the fluid has a strange color / substance or smells strong, you may suffer from problems such as anal cracks, hemorrhoids or a leaky anus. It is important to see the doctor.

Good hygiene

  1. If an underlying problem has been ruled out, it is now very important to wash the buttocks thoroughly every day with mild soap. Really spread your buttocks apart, so you don't forget a place. There are all kinds of apocrine sweat glands (just like in the armpits) that secrete the characteristic stinky sweat, but there will also always be some residues of stool. If you don't wash carefully every day, you will soon start to smell! In addition, many microbes swim in sweat that can cause nasty yeast infections if they are not washed away. You can also place a bidet in the toilet for extra clean buttocks. Incidentally, it is better not to shave the hair off the buttocks. The hair forms a natural buffer so that the sweat does not immediately run into your clothes.

Powder, deodorant and antiperspirant?

  1. Many apply regular underarm sweat products to the buttocks as well. Especially powder is often used, because it can absorb moisture so well. You can use talcum powder or corn starch powder, but there are also all kinds of special powders enriched with cooling agents such as menthol or healing agents such as zinc. If you sweat a lot, the powder can sometimes clump, which unfortunately is not very nice. In addition, there are many people who simply put a deodorant stick (not a spray) over their buttocks or even a real antiperspirant. The latter, in particular, can work very well, but stop if persistent irritation persists that won't go away. Preferably look for one without perfume / alcohol and with soothing substances such as Allantoin. Preferably use all these products after washing on dry skin.

Underwear and paper aids

  1. Which underwear you wear is perhaps one of the most important things. Avoid tight underwear anyway and preferably also cotton (it often retains moisture). Some very good fabrics are merino wool, silk and microfiber. They absorb the moisture of the skin very well and allow it to evaporate quickly. It is best to look for sports underwear brands that use only those types of fabrics. It costs more, but many really like it a lot better. In terms of clothes, if you are very concerned about visible wet spots, you can only wear black pants. Loose and light clothing will also help!

If nothing works

  1. If these things don't work, it's time to look at more rigorous solutions. Should you actually lose some weight? People with a good BMI often have more space between their legs, so they will naturally sweat less here. A high-fiber diet with less sugar, spicy foods and caffeine can also help. Those who are really close to despair can seek help from medical professionals. For example, a strong prescription antiperspirant and iontophoresis treatments can help with a sweaty butt.
