Book Review: Gluten Free Baking

  1. People with gluten intolerance or celiac disease should not eat just anything. Bread and pastries are a problem in particular. The book Gluten Free Baking contains more than 60 delicious recipes for pies, cakes, biscuits, bread and desserts from the oven. We have tested whether gluten-free is really tasty with some recipes from this book.

  1. Gluten Free Baking is a cookbook like a cookbook should be. Delicious, often fairly simple recipes, beautiful photos that will make you hungry and tips for handy substitutes and inventive baking methods. Most importantly, it contains gluten-free versions of the most popular baked goods such as macarons, brownies, cakes, scones, muffins, breads and bagels.

Tasting

  1. There are more and more gluten-free products available, but not all of them are equally tasty or are very expensive. Writer Hannah Miles shows how easy it is to bake yourself. She describes the situation of one of her best friends Lucy, who turned out to have a gluten intolerance. She immersed herself in gluten-free baking especially for Lucy and developed numerous recipes. The aim of the book is to simply make things that taste so good that you don't realize they are gluten-free. In addition, it contains a handy overview of baked goods with gluten, which you might think are gluten-free and describes various gluten-free flours.

Tested

  1. Whether you really do not taste that the baked goods in the book are gluten-free, we at HealthNet had to test ourselves first. We made three recipes from the book with normal self-raising flour and gluten-free flour and what turned out? The difference was indeed not that clear at all. Especially with the cakes (brownie and plum-cinnamon cake) we had to guess which one was now gluten-free. The gluten-free variant was slightly less wet and therefore firmer in structure, but there was little difference in taste. In many recipes, Miles replaces the flour with ground nuts. This not only makes it gluten-free, but also ensures a delicious taste. The gluten-free bread was slightly drier than the normal variety.

Baking In short. Gluten-free baking is not that complicated at all and also very tasty. If one of your guests is not allowed gluten, it is so easy and fun to eat a gluten-free cake together. So did you feel like getting started yourself? With these three recipes from Gluten-Free Baking you put a real treat on the table: Walnut brownie with white chocolate Plum cinnamon cake Focaccia with rosemary, olive and tomato Don't miss anything?
