Step 2: study the types

Type 1. Budget: 'fixed' head Bic is one of the manufacturers of the absolute basic razor blade system. System is too fancy a word: just like a ballpoint pen, this is a single plastic unit with the razor fused in it. A distinctive feature of the basic model is that there is usually no colored strip (usually green) material at the top of the razor. It's just one plastic case, usually white, with just one or two razor blades (of course that's the metal strips you see).
Type 2. Middle engine: fixed head, but with (green) strip

Wilkinson, among others, has this 'middle engine' in the collection. A few bells and whistles have already been added to this model. At the top of the razor blade itself, you see a - usually green - strip. This softens and refines the shave, and gives an indication: if the strip is battered and discolored, it is high time for a new blade. The handle can also have a profile, for a better grip. Type 3. Most expensive system: flexible head, multiple blades, (green) strip

The handle of such a razor blade system is ergonomically shaped. In other words, it lies optimally in the hand for a great shave. The material of the holder is non-slip on the handle, and softer around it. More importantly, you can feel the head bounce gently when you press against it. The (green) strip at the head is of course present, and you see a whole series of razor blades in a row. In simple terms: the metal part of this shaving system has a considerably larger surface than is the case with cheaper or simpler models.

In the world of cosmetics and personal care, 'expensive' isn't always 'better'. But for razor blade systems, the rule you would expect does apply. The more expensive the system, the better, that is the rule of thumb. Even so, if you are blessed with easy skin that is hardly subject to irritation and bumps, the cheapest and simplest model razor blade system will suffice. Especially for your legs. But do you have coarser hair and less forgiving skin? Then choose a more expensive system. It must also be said that the razor blade systems with the most bells and whistles, ie multiple blades, flexible head and ergonomically shaped handle, give the best results. You need to make fewer shaving movements for optimal results. And the fewer shaves, the less chance of problems such as irritation.
What do you shave with blades, and what not?

Despite all the happy stories from manufacturers, razor shaving is strictly regulated for most of us. Shaving with blades is done 'wet', so on wet skin, preferably after a shower or bath. Then the hairs are the softest and the best to remove. Small 'smuggling pieces' can sometimes be touched up dry with a razor blade system, but only softer hairs on easy skin tolerate this well. Often you see the dreaded skin irritation appear after a day or so. Another point is the bikini line. While legs and underarms often respond well to razor blade work, for many the bikini area is simply a no-go area for razors. Dry shaving with a shaver may produce a less smooth result, but also much less irritation. If you work very carefully and have collected some expertise, you can also easily remove hairs on the chin or areolas with a shaving system of holder with blades. But here too, the more delicate the skin area, the more appropriate the most advanced shaving system is.
