Christmas without kilo # 039; s!
-
Can you get through Christmas without putting on five kilos? No problem, says experience expert and weight loss guru Jan Heemskerk, "and with a little good will it is fun too".
-
You know my story, and if you don't know it, here's a brief summary: I weighed 111 kilos when my wife told me she didn't find me so attractive anymore. In addition, she was concerned about my health. I went to a dietitian who found that I was way too fat, did not move enough and drank too much white wine. I was shocked, changed course, started eating a healthy diet, getting enough exercise and stopped drinking. I promptly lost 25 pounds and wrote a book about it. You can buy that book if you want to lose weight with a smile. What I am often asked as a born-again Slankie: how do you do that, adopt a new, healthy lifestyle? Very simply, I say: you have to be highly motivated, know what to do and not do and brave it because it is so nice to be healthy, fit and clear. And, of course, make the circumstances so that you have as little effort as possible to keep your resolutions.

Do the â € ˜Great Jan Heemskerk Christmas 5-step planâ € ™
-
The first Slankie years I was rather dreading the holidays. Research shows that â € ˜weâ € ™ can squeeze up to 6000 kcal at Christmas. Per day! That is roughly three times the normal recommended amount. No wonder then that I and my slim figure looked like a mountain towards Christmas, and that you â € “dear reader â €“ might fear that you will be gobbling up five kilos next December. And then in January 500 kilometers of Nordic walking to get back to your target weight. But I have good news: I've made it through Christmas three times without gaining an ounce. And it was fun as well. How? Read about it in the â € ˜Grand Jan Heemskerk Christmas 5-step plan for gourmets and pets ”.

1. Half is more than enough
-
Compared to a normal weekday, we already eat more extensively, richer and more often a day than usual at Christmas. Do you also have to work inside all kinds of things? Why not take a little bit, say half of the amount you would normally have scooped or drank? So you don't have to miss out on all the delicacies except for the feeling that you are already five months pregnant, can hardly get out of your words from the drink mid-afternoon and secretly would like to take a little nap. For me, â € halfâ € ™ was a revelation, because you can bet that we know about consuming at the Heemskerkjes. I've never felt more fit for Christmas and half of it turned out to be more than enough to stay alive gloriously.

2. Go do something!
-
Boredom is a big fattener during Christmas. In our family, it is good practice to arrive at the (grand) parents on the day of the annual Christmas dinner around coffee time. However, dinner does not start until around 7 PM. This means that eight hours have to be bridged, hours that we traditionally spend in the circle in the living room. We are liberally provided with snacks, nibbles and a small drink from noon, which we work in at a rapid pace out of sheer boredom. Because no family has so much to tell each other that you can live for eight long hours without drinking a delirium and grabbing the blue cheese and fat sausage platter. Better idea: do something. Register with the family, have a nice cup of coffee, but then immediately clean the plate before a beach or forest walk, discover a nice town in the area, let the (imaginary) dog out, but for God's sake don't stick in that circle of death and that something. Preferably something that burns calories and stimulates circulation. Ask who would like to come along, but feel free to go only if no one wants to come. You will find that when you return you have not missed anything, but that you still have a fresh head and a healthy appetite.

3. Shorten Christmas
-
I don't know how you are doing, but I sometimes have the impression that Christmas is getting longer every year. Nowadays you have to show up on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for all kinds of creative gatherings that have one thing in common: there is a lot of drinking and eating. And with every event that is inserted, the chances of having a double chin after the holidays increase. Do not hesitate to make a rough cut in your Christmas diary. If your friends are true friends, they will remain so even if you unsubscribe from the â € Third Christmas Day Rioja and Cheese Fondue Festivalâ € ™, or just try the â € Wines from Nazareth with Koshere. Sausageâ € ™.

4. Do the Detox Day
-
While we're on the subject of added Christmas days, you can of course organize one yourself. Christmas Survival Detox Day. A Christmas day entirely devoted to detoxification and gaining strength for the rest of Christmas. A day with light vegetable snacks, smoothies without a drop of alcohol, yoga and crossfit, and professional mental support for anyone with a Christmas burnout. You will be amazed how many people secretly share the longing for a healthy day with you but did not dare to say it. Namastà ©!
5. Don't pretend!
-
You shouldn't get mad, but if while reading the above you thought it would be pathetic if you were forced to deny yourself anything during Christmas through these stupid tips, you are a incorrigible poser who should be ashamed. And should do something about it. “For drunks and gluttones oversleep their day, become poor, and eventually walk in rags.” (Proverbs 23:21). I know because I was one of them. A Liesbeth van Rossum is an internist and endocrinologist and Mariette Boon is an internist in training and researcher into brown fat. Together they wrote the bestseller 'Fat important'.
