How do I waste less food?

  1. Patricia Schutte, nutritionist If you see that your meat / fish / meat substitutes are out of date tomorrow, throw them in the pan today and only freeze them afterwards. You can also freeze fish and meat immediately after purchase. It is best to blanch fresh vegetables before freezing them. Blanching means pouring boiling water over.


  1. If you want to defrost meat, put it covered on a plate or dish in the refrigerator. You can also defrost small pieces of meat in the microwave on defrost setting. Prepared meat can be kept for two days in the refrigerator in a sealed container or on a covered plate.

Keep out of the refrigerator

  1. Fruiting vegetables such as cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers, cannot withstand the cold and look nice in a glass bowl on your counter, unless there is a lot of sun there. In that case, you prefer to put these vegetables in a dark, cool kitchen cupboard. This also applies to green beans.

Store in the refrigerator Broccoli, chicory and cauliflower can be kept out of the refrigerator for a few days, but it is better in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator.
