Just tested: Mathijs Familiebox

  1. Home-delivered meal boxes: they can no longer be counted on one hand and they come in all shapes and sizes. Recently, a special family box from Mathijs Meal Box has also been launched. Time for a test by the editorial team of HealthNet! I am the lucky one who can test the family box with my family.

  1. The box full of vegetables, meat, fish and other ingredients is delivered on Monday evening. The family box contains three recipes every week. The following dishes are on the menu for this week: A. Chicken fillet with pasta, corn and red pesto B. Beef sausages with rice and chickpeas C. Plaice fillet with mashed potatoes and carrots Great, this week I don't have to think about groceries and put something on the table in the evening. The box is delivered exactly on time with a refrigerated car. Everything in it looks well cared for and it can go straight into the fridge and kitchen cupboards.

Day 1

  1. The next day we get started with menu A (see photo). The chicken fillet with pasta, corn, mushrooms and red pesto is on the table within fifteen minutes. Because my children don't like it when everything is mixed up, they get everything on the plate separately. For ourselves I mix everything up according to the recipe. Normally, a meal like this would not end up on our table, so it is looked at with surprise. The children only eat the pasta and chicken fillet and leave the rest. We find the meal surprisingly tasty, simple but something different.

Day 2

  1. On day two I will skip meal B for a while. I don't like sausages at all and I can't really look forward to the chickpeas either. So this evening plaice fillet with mashed potatoes and carrots will be served. This dish is also ready quickly and it looks very good. The taste is a bit disappointing, but with a little more salt and pepper than in the recipe, it tastes a lot better. Only unfortunately ... my kids don't even want to try the fish. They will eat the mashed potatoes, but with considerable reluctance.

Day 3

  1. This meal takes a little longer, about twenty minutes. The beef sausages should be baked all around and then cut into pieces and the chickpeas stir-fried together with two yellow peppers. And guess what? The meal I dreaded is surprisingly delicious. The sausages are of very good quality and nice and spicy.

Conclusion

  1. The Mathijs Meal Box was therefore fine. The dishes were ready quickly and the quality of the products. I think the advantages of the box are that the recipes are varied, that you don't have to go out for groceries or go to the supermarket quickly after work. If my kids weren't those fussy eaters, I would definitely like it. Another plus I think is that the subscription is flexible. If you want to skip a week or longer, you can.
