Pityriasis amiantacea (schalp): symptoms and treatment

Pityriasis amiantacea, also known as 'tinea aminatacea' or 'schalp', is a rare skin condition in which thick, patchy scaly layers, clinging around the hair, form. the cause is not exactly known in 2020. Pityriasis amiantacea may be an enhanced form of dandruff. Due to the fact that these thick plaques in the hair are cosmetically disturbing, this skin condition can cause a lot of shame and psychological problems. Treatment takes place with Xamiol gel, which contains liposomes with Vitamin D, as well as a corticoid, a hormone produced by the adrenal cortex. The French baron Jean-Louis Alibert (1768-1837) first described the condition in 1832.
