The mushroom. Tasty and healthy

  1. The mushroom is a delicious, versatile vegetable that has many applications and is also healthy. Some even call it a super vegetable. This is because the mushroom already contains a lot of antioxidants and minerals, which we really need for good health. In addition, the mushroom is low in calories and fat and therefore fits very well in a diet to lose weight and then the picture is complete.

Losing weight with mushrooms

  1. There was once a study in which volunteers replaced their meat portion with mushrooms for 5 weeks and 4 times a week. The result was that they had lost between 5 and 9 kilos. When you read on you will also see that mushrooms have very good healthy properties. So, if you want to lose weight, this can also be an option. Of course, the fact that mushrooms are 90% water and contain no calories is also a great idea.

Different types

  1. We usually use the white mushrooms, but there are a few more varieties including: the giant mushroom, the chestnut mushroom, the cave mushroom and the portobello (this is the giant version of the chestnut mushroom). Moreover, it should be mentioned that the "shiitake" boosts the immune system, helps to lower blood pressure, counteracts the effects of bad fats (heart attacks) and fights tumors (cancer).

White mushrooms

  1. The white mushrooms that are eaten the most (those in those blue trays) are also very healthy. It is not for nothing that they are a super vegetable because they contain 12 times more antioxidants than other vegetables. In addition, these mushrooms contain the substance: L-ergotioneine, which can repair damaged cells. Last but not least, it has been found that "regular" mushrooms can also reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Never eat raw mushrooms

  1. Never eat raw mushrooms. Unfortunately, because they are also very tasty raw. However, it is not good for your health. The fact is that mushrooms contain a number of potentially harmful substances. The main one is agaritine. Common mushrooms contain 15 mg of agaritine per kilo and this substance has been shown to be carcinogenic in mice. You can therefore also carefully assume that it is also not healthy for us humans. Another reason is that mushrooms are grown on horse manure, which of course contains all kinds of bacteria. So be on the safe side and always heat the mushrooms before eating them.

Cleaning mushrooms

  1. With all fruit and vegetables it is always very important that they are washed in water, but with mushrooms that is just not the intention. They will then absorb themselves full of the water that then comes out again during baking and then the flavor is largely lost. Take a piece of kitchen paper or a soft brush for cleaning (brushes especially for mushrooms are available in the store). Cut the bottom part of the stem and cut the mushrooms into quarters or slices.

How to best preserve

  1. Mushrooms easily absorb the scent of other strong smelling products, so don't put them too close to onions, leeks and garlic or the like. However, they are best kept in the refrigerator. Well sealed with foil, so that they cannot lose moisture, but again with a few holes in it because they must be able to "breathe". They can then be kept for 2 to 3 days.
