Fresh iced tea, make your own

  1. Iced tea is such a drink that is certainly drunk eagerly during the hot summer days and evenings. It is refreshing, thirst-quenching and healthy. At least we think so. Now iced tea is for sale as a soft drink, but that does not always excel in health. Why not make a healthy drink like iced tea yourself. Really healthy iced tea.

Ice tea is always possible

  1. Iced tea has something sophisticated, it is tasty and healthy and absolutely thirst-quenching during the warm months. Iced tea suits every hour of the day and that's an advantage. If you make iced tea yourself, it is not only much healthier, but also a lot cheaper than the bottles with the refined sugars from the supermarket.

How to make iced tea

  1. Ingredients 1 liter of cold water 1 large slice of lemon 1 large slice of lime 1 fresh mint plant (or in bags if there is no fresh one) 1 cm ginger

Prepare

  1. Boil a liter of water and then let the mint soak in the hot water. Usually four to five minutes is sufficient, but it may be a little longer to get the taste a bit more intense. Now peel the ginger and cut into slices and mix this in the boiled water as well. Finally add the lemon and lime slices and let it cool down in the refrigerator. Remove everything before serving if desired. Serve it nice and cold of course and you can add one or two crushed mint leaves and a 'wrapped' * ice cube.

Option sweet

  1. If you like a slightly sweeter version, add some honey to the hot water and let it cool down. It goes without saying, the more honey, the sweeter the whole. If you have a licorice plant or stevia plant in the garden, you can also sweeten the iced tea with it.

Option fruit

  1. What you see more and more - and which can certainly taste good - is the option to mix (small) fruit. Think of blackberries, red currants, strawberries, small slices of sweet apple or peach.

Advantages and disadvantages of iced tea

  1. A clear advantage is that the drink is thirst-quenching, fresh and contains hardly any calories. Another added benefit is that it saves energy. The disadvantage is the increasing bitterness as the tea brews longer, but you have that in your own hands.

The simple method

  1. If you think this is too complex a method for a glass of iced tea, you can always use the easy way. This is a jug of cold water with tea bags in the refrigerator to taste and after roughly one night or day the iced tea is also at the desired taste.

Finally

  1. Ice tea has been popular for a long time and we are being thrown to death in the shop by the bottles with refined sugars. Besides the fact that this iced tea has nothing to do with health, the drink is also moving away from the original iced tea flavor and has less and less to do with “real tea”. Making it yourself really does not take that much time, can be made exactly to taste, is thirst-quenching and very healthy. Cheers!
