Bacopa for cramps

  1. Bacopa has bronchospasmolytic activity. That means it decramps the airways. The antispasmodic effect was also established in the intestines. It could therefore be used in irritable bowel syndrome or asthma, but this is an application that is hopefully in the near future because more research needs to be done on the antispasmodic effect of bacopa.

Other medicinal effects bacopa

  1. It inhibits the heliobacter pylori bacteria or so it is good for stomach ulcers. It dilates blood vessels. It protects against the toxicity of substances such as morphine and phenytoin. It has a stimulating effect on the thyroid gland, so that it can be used in case of a decreased thyroid function or hypothyroidism.

Dose of bacopa

  1. Bacopa is only prescribed in minimal doses. Adults are allowed a maximum of 400 mg per day and children a maximum of 200 mg. Younger children naturally take a maximum of even less; 100 mg per day.

Bacopa Warnings

  1. Bacopa is generally well tolerated. Interactions are known with morphine and phenytoin. These substances work less well if one has taken several hundred milligrams of bacopa. Some tranquilizers seem to mimic the effects of bacopa. In medicine this is called potentizing. When this is the case, you should only use bacopa in consultation with a phytotherapist. There are theoretically possible interactions with drugs to combat epilepsy, Alzheimer's and thyroid drugs. Anyone who uses these drugs and also wants to use bacopa would be wise to hire a phytotherapist.
