Vegetable antibiotics

  1. Antibiotics are found in our food. Onion, garlic and honey are well-known antibiotics. Natural antibiotics have the advantage that their antibacterial effect is not lost, as is the case with artificial antibiotics. The fact is that bacteria can become resistant to synthetic antibiotics, but not to vegetable antibiotics. At least: it has never been observed in nature that a bacterium suddenly turned out to be resistant to a vegetable antibiotic.

Onion and garlic

  1. Onion and garlic are related. They are the best known natural antibiotics. Anyone who cuts a raw onion every day will rarely catch a cold, because the scent of onion alone has a healing effect. If you have a starting cold, you can put a half-cut onion next to your bed at night. There is a good chance that the antibacterial effect of the onion will prevent the cold from continuing. Colds are caused by a combination of viruses and bacteria

Hang up garlic

  1. Hanging garlic has traditionally been a method of chasing away ghosts. When you understand that by "ghosts" is meant "pathogens" then you can understand the truth of this. Eating garlic works best to ward off diseases, of course, but has the pungent smell as a disadvantage. You can mask this naturally with parsley

Water Hemp

  1. This plant is not related to cannabis. It's called water hemp

Nasturtiums

  1. Nasturtium is a strong antibiotic. Most everyone knows that the flower is delicious

Black radish

  1. Black radish or black radish is a plant already found in ancient Egypt

Narrow-leaved plantain

  1. The narrow plantain is an ancient medicine for wounds. It contains antibiotics that are released when the leaves are bruised. Then you can rub plantain on insect bumps; that reduces the itching. Plantain is also used to make a cough syrup. Strong plantain tea with honey

Honey

  1. Honey is a known antibiotic. Before doctors used artificial antibiotics, honey was smeared on open wounds. Honey not only protects the wound against external substances, but also works effectively as an antibacterial agent. At the MSF in Amsterdam

Zilverdistel

  1. Silver thistle is also a source of antibiotics. In the past, the heart of this flower was eaten just as with artichokes. The flour must be boiled first. It grows in open fields and was therefore called hunter's bread. Unfortunately this plant is hardly ever found; in the Netherlands

Other vegetable antibiotics

  1. Thyme is a known antibiotic. It is often used in oral care as it prevents the spread of harmful bacteria. In addition, vegetable antibiotics have been found in tomatoes, rhubarb and lichens. Lichens can be very healthy but are really only eaten during times of food shortage.
