5 tips to immediately eat healthier

  1. A few simple changes to your diet can have a major impact on your health. Going healthier sometimes seems like a daunting task, but you can start with a few small steps. As far as food is concerned, I hereby give you some tips.

  1. Anyone can do this and should start right now too! Before you buy or consume prepackaged food, you should always check what is in it. You should therefore not even adjust your diet yet. Simply becoming aware of all the 'industrial' products in your diet is a good first step.

  1. Look how many ingredients there are of which you can barely pronounce the name! Look at the amount of ingredients that are sometimes needed for very simple foods. Does it contain a lot of ingredients that you would not find in any normal kitchen? Then maybe these are foods you shouldn't put on the menu too often.

  1. Furthermore, it doesn't hurt to look at the amounts of refined sugar and salt. Nowadays, manufacturers are also required to state what one serving of their product means for your daily recommended amounts of sugar, salt or fat.

  1. Note! You may be shocked if you look closely at this one.

  1. Pasta makes up a large portion of the average Western diet. Making the switch to whole grain products can make a huge difference in your diet and health. Many supermarket products are made from industrially refined grains - pasta, rice, sandwiches, biscuits, hamburger buns, you name it.

  1. So there is a lot of room for improvement. Fortunately, more and more supermarkets now offer wholemeal alternatives of these products. But if you don't find them there, your local bakery, organic or health store can help you. Once you get used to the taste you never want to go back! I personally like to eat spelled bread and would definitely give it a try!

  1. One of the main reasons to eat organic is to avoid pesticides in your diet. Now you can still try to rinse fruit and vegetables yourself to wash out as much of the residues of these harmful substances as possible. But of course you cannot do this with dairy products.

  1. Antibiotics, pesticides, dioxins ... It all ends up on your plate or in your glass. Therefore, always switch to organic alternatives for dairy products.

  1. If you don't eat many fresh products at the moment, ask yourself ... why not? Is it because you don't care much about the taste, because you wouldn't have time to prepare them, or maybe even because you don't know how to prepare the fresh variety yourself? Maybe give it a try, possibly with a few new recipes and with local and fresh products.

  1. A simple healthy meal does not have to take a lot of time, you can easily make it yourself and is actually always much better than those boring frozen or microwave meals from the supermarket!

  1. Let me be honest, if a five-year-old is in McDonald's, it is only because his parents brought him there. Of course children like fast food. But fast food quickly becomes an easy choice too: you don't have to cook, you don't have to do the dishes and your child will always like it! But educating children also means learning to eat healthy and they are not going to learn the value of good and healthy food in a fast food restaurant.
