Is Romanesco Healthy?

  1. Last week got the green and this separate form of cauliflower is also healthy. To be fair, the name of this not too well known vegetable is not even known: Romanesco

  1. When I started looking up on google, a bell started ringing immediately. Now that I've seen an image, I recognized it immediately. The last time I ate this myself was (about) 2 years ago. So I can't immediately remember what it tastes like.

  1. Below some things about the vegetable romanesco!

What is romanesco?

  1. A more common name for romanesco is turret cauliflower. This vegetable has a yellow-green color and looks suspiciously like cauliflower. This vegetable used to be called the "broccoli of Rome".

  1. For a number of years this vegetable has only been known in the Netherlands, but in the more southern countries it has been a delicacy for years! This vegetable is only available between July and November! We just have bad luck in the winter spring! It is a very decorative vegetable and its shape makes it possible to prepare beautiful meals! It does take some creativity! The taste of this vegetable is slightly close to cauliflower, but these vegetables taste much softer.

  1. But now let's get back to the question ...

  1. Yes, romanesco is very healthy!

  1. It is packed with folic acid. This is a water soluble vitamin also known as vitamin B-11. Folic acid is a very important mineral which is involved in many processes in your body such as:

  1. How to eat? Basically the same as with a cauliflower. Cut away the leaves and cut the turrets (florets) from the stump. Wash the turrets and cook them, for example.

  1. When you buy this, it is important that all turrets are connected. If not, I would leave it and go for another one! Outside the cabbage cupboard it is good for a little over half a week. Just make sure to keep it in a cool place as otherwise vitamins and minerals will be lost!
