However, coffee also has a few drawbacks, which we should not ignore here. If you drink too much coffee a day, the stimulant effect of caffeine will shoot through. It makes you feel scared and rushed. Also, if you take too much caffeine, your night's sleep can worsen, and in some people it can even lead to feelings of anxiety.

Coffee and blood pressure?
-
Another factor that is often mentioned is the relationship between coffee and blood pressure. You have probably been warned that drinking a lot of coffee greatly increases blood pressure. However, that is a bit more complicated. Coffee does indeed slightly increase blood pressure, but only if you normally do not or hardly drink it!

However, that is a bit more complicated. Coffee does indeed increase blood pressure slightly, but only if you normally don't or hardly drink it!
-
If you take several cups daily or regularly, your body will get used to it. The effect of the caffeine on your blood pressure is then much less. In other words, blood pressure is not a reason for most people to significantly reduce coffee consumption.
Coffee and dehydration?
-
Coffee is also often linked to dehydration. Caffeine releases sodium from your kidneys, which must be eliminated through your urine. As a result, you have to go to the bathroom more often. But does that actually lead to a deteriorated fluid balance? Interestingly, that doesn't seem to be the case!
-
The reason is, again, habituation. If you actually never drink coffee, a good dose of caffeine can indeed cause poorer hydration. But if you drink a normal amount of coffee every day, you will not suddenly become dehydrated.
Is coffee healthy?
-
In short, is coffee healthy? If you drink it in normal amounts, there is no reason to renounce it. It does not have any major disadvantages, and it does have quite a few advantages - quite a good score, so. [! 180140 => 1140 = 14!] This is of course always about freshly brewed black coffee. If you add spoons of sugar, coffee is a lot less good for you right away. The same goes for syrups, cream and other fatty or sugary additives. Practically everything that you get at Starbucks therefore unfortunately does not fall into the healthy category!

The Nutrition Center indicates that 400 mg of caffeine should in any case have no side effects. That equates to about 5 cups of coffee, or 10 cups of green or black tea. Some people are also not affected by slightly higher doses, but it is not advisable to go far beyond this.
-
It also makes a difference when you drink that coffee. Caffeine will last longer than you think! This can disrupt the quality of your sleep and lead to fatigue. It is best not to drink coffee after 4 pm.
What does caffeine contain?
-
Please note that the advice of the Nutrition Center is about caffeine, not coffee. So it is better not to drink 5 cups of coffee a day if you also get a lot of caffeine from other sources!
-
Caffeinated drinks that you shouldn't drink are cola and energy drinks. Cola contains about half as much caffeine as coffee, energy drinks roughly the same. However, both are also packed with added sugars. Therefore, these are certainly not healthy sources of caffeine.
-
Black tea and green tea also contain about half the caffeine in coffee. So for every two glasses of tea you drink, you take one less cup of coffee. Herbal tea is also caffeine-free; you do not have to include that in the calculation.
