Why are Thai women so slim?

  1. Thai women are slender, slim and tight and remain so throughout their lives. They can eat whatever they want without gaining an ounce. Or so it seems. And no matter how old they are, they seem to stay young and slim forever. How do they do that? What is their secret? They are beautiful, friendly and smile. In Thailand you see (almost) no fat Thai. Is it because of the heat in Thailand? Is it a matter of culture or good genetics? Is it their eating habit?

Fat Thai women

  1. To get rid of a fable, fat (er) Thai women do exist! Especially since there are fast food chains in Thailand, the average Thai is getting fatter. The young people in particular are Westernizing quickly. Obesity is also becoming a major problem in Southeast Asia, especially among young people. Wealth, fast food, less physical work are all causes that the Thai are also getting fatter. There is more heart failure and diabetes among the Thai than before. The elderly remain fairly loyal to their own culture and do not gain weight as quickly as the younger generation. Still, the average Thai woman remains slim, slender and graceful.

Coconut milk

  1. Coconut milk is on the Thai woman's menu almost every day. Coconut milk contains fat, but the fat from coconut milk is essential fat. Fat that the body needs to function properly. Coconut milk is very nourishing and healthy. Coconut milk has 33 kilocalories per 100 grams.

Chili peppers

  1. Hot food has a great effect on digestion according to Thai people. Eating chili peppers on a regular basis speeds up digestion.

Bread

  1. Few Thai women eat bread. Eating bread is not part of the Thai woman's daily routine. In the Netherlands there is a real bread culture, something they do not know in Thailand. Thai women do not eat yellow cheese and fatty meat. Never mind a sandwich with cheese. She does eat a lot of shrimp, rice and chicken.

Breakfast

  1. The Thai woman has a very light breakfast. They often start in the morning with rice for breakfast or with a cereal porridge (congee) to kick-start the metabolism.

Lunch

  1. For the Thai woman, lunch often consists of rice with stir-fried vegetables and some chicken or pork.

Evening

  1. In the evening the Thai woman eat quite early, from 5 pm to 7 pm. In the evening they eat light and small portions. The portions that the Thai woman eats are much smaller than we are used to here in the Netherlands or in the west. The Thai woman can eat all day long, but they always eat small portions.

Dessert

  1. In general, Thai women are fond of sweet. Especially their dessert of egg, sugar and coconut milk is a favorite.

Way of life

  1. The way of life, their eating habits, the type of food and speeding up digestion all help to keep Thai women slim. Thai women eat more often than in the Netherlands, but they eat smaller portions, eat a lot more vegetables and very little meat, use a lot of lime, pineapple, galangal and chili.

Construction

  1. The build of the Thai woman also has to do with the fact that they are so slim. They are simply much finer built than the sturdy Dutch women.

Temperature

  1. There is one more thing to keep in mind. When it freezes in the Netherlands, we want solid food. In Thailand, the average temperature is around 32 degrees Celsius all year round. In this warmer environment it is easier to eat light food that is easy to digest.

Thai cuisine

  1. And, Thai cuisine is delicious! Who wants to snack when you have such a delicious kitchen at your disposal? Fresh fish, lots of herbs and vegetables and everything equally colorful and mouth-watering delicious! Although the Thai woman also has a soft spot for chocolate.

Sports

  1. The Thai woman does not do much sports. Thai women in large cities who do not work on the land are more involved in sports. However, physical labor, such as working in the rice fields or taking care of the rubber trees, is daily routine for many Thai women in smaller villages. The Thai woman works long working days, often more than 10 hours a day. She doesn't have much opportunity to snack.

Balance

  1. The Thai woman is generally better balanced: she is in balance. There are hardly any emotional eaters in Thailand. They hardly suffer from binge eating. They hardly suffer from fluctuating weight. They laugh a lot and like to see the bright side of life. Even though the Thai women certainly also have to deal with a lot of setback (and poverty!) They always have hope. Nobody takes hope from them. They trust in a happy ending. Every new day is a new beginning. They start every new day with a smile. (You also saw this image after the Tsunami.)

Keep measure

  1. But, what is the real secret that the Thai woman is so slim? Keep measure. Do not serve large plates, but regularly a small portion. It's not really an eye opener, but it is hopeful. Do not overeat, smaller portions and eat more often in the day, lots of varying and colored vegetables, little meat and no bread or cheese. Not to forget their special ingredient: Laugh a lot, keep up courage and never give up hope. It works for the Thai woman, or it works for the Dutch woman…?
